It has been quite a few stressful days lately, I won’t go directly in on the details just yet, but it seems to have calmed down a little as for now. Allora, today is the last day of May and the perfect day to write a little update. This is the last day before my summer-vacation begins, you may think I am a bit early, but truth to be told there is a reason why I take my summer vacation already.
Reasoning
The typical summer vacation starts in June and July in Norway, normally the “Fellesferie” which by translation means common vacation is where workers normally take vacation. A regulated time period for people who works within shift related works and the time when people with kids need to take theirs as the usual kindergardens and others are for surely closed during this period. This period is usually set to be three or four weeks in July.
However in my type of job, and since I do not have kids, I do not have any specific rules that I need to follow when taking my vacation. My boss even appreciates that I do not take vacation during summer, since many of my colleagues already want to have vacation during summer. So why don’t I take it?
It is due to the factors that number one, summer months in all of Europe is when all businesses turn up their prices. So most areas are more expensive during summer months, and also since most people also take vacation during these months, it is almost a guarantee that it will be crowded by tourists. Reason number two is due to the temperatures in Europe and in particular the countries I tend to go to, will be a living furnace during June and July. Both Italia and Spain have insane temperatures during the span of June to August. So I prefer to not take the risk of spontaneous combustion when I am on vacation. The third and final reason is that Norway is actually quite nice during these months. For the most I hate the cold, winter, snow and all that shit. But during June and July we have possibilities for sun, a comfortable warmth, and lazy days at the beach. But since I work Monday to Friday in an office quite close to a beach, then I dont mind working the hours and then just go to the beach afterwards.
I want to enjoy Norway the few months that it can actually be nice, so that is why I take my vacation either earlier or later. I love the Norwegian summer, and I have prayers for the one in 2024 to be a good one. We deserve it after the shitty winter we have been through, still now it has not given up it’s hold. We had snow just a couple of days ago, and we are so close to being in May.
