The simple beginnings of Owlando

The first of April, one could easily pass this off as an April Fool’s prank, but it seems that it is not. My blog got some life on it, and I managed to get some writing inspiration. I never thought that would happen after so much time without even an inch of inspiration, but here we are. I have to admit I owe it all to WordPress.com for getting into this, it started as simple as the concept of Daily prompts. A function within the WordPress.com ecosystem, a question is asked every day, and from this, you write your reply. In many cases, the replies can be lengthy, interesting and quite funny, also, you can follow the prompt and read other people’s responses. Kind of like a community, I like it, and it feels motivating.

A blog with a long story

This web domain has been around since some time in 201,3 I think, it was part of a school assignment. To make your own brand, and to create some identity behind it. Let me say that back in the days it actually had an identity, compared to whatever it is now. Maybe you could take a psychological analysis of that statement and compare it to the person behind it, I don’t know. Allora, since 2013, this blog has been restarted quite a few times, with new concepts this and new concepts that. It was both due to make it fit with the needs of my school, but also because I had different ideas all the time, sometimes vastly different.

At some parts it was just a portfolio, other times just a blog to post random pictures, and currently it s something in between. Let me tell you that my ultimate aim for this place is to become some sort of portfolio, blog and diary. All in one, and as the old me would have said, I want to make it something I can make a living out of, believe it!

If the last part is possible anymore, I do not know, but I guess I will keep trying, as it is a dream. A dream that has been forgotten for a long time, but maybe now would be the time to dust off old motivation and inspiration and actually get to the storytelling.

Photos, journeys and journaling

The tagline hit me randomly one evening while writing, it is quick and on-point. Maybe not so catchy, but with a high play on the similar spelling for journey and journal. As part of my previous education, digital storytelling was one of my favourite subjects to study. Both methods and how to incorporate them into engaging stories spiced with a lot of pictures. For some reason, over the years, I forgot my passion for this, and later years, even my interest in photography diminished.

If you put it back to basics, the catchphrase emphasizes everything that I want this website to be. Along with the brief description:

“Capturing moments, telling stories, and exploring the world one photo at a time. Dive into travel, photography, daylife adventures and occasional misadventures.”

I can feel the vibe there, one that I used to have, and hope to rekindle by keeping doing this!

We are going back to basics

To put it shortly, we are going back to basics, back to the simple and humble beginnings. I decided to re-learn everything, not via school, but on my own spare time. To keep projects, find new ideas and to evolve, and hopefully not loose the thread this time.

By going back to basics, I mean it in every way possible.

Photography, will be taken back to the point-and-shoot era, the times where I just had a camera, saw something I liked, took a picture of it and posted it. And for this I have decided to degrade most of my camera equipment to just consist of a good point and shoot camera, a little teaser to put here, I might invest in a Leica camera. A point-and-shoot Leica Q3. This is just maybe.

Journeys, well each journey is a new one, so every journey will be a new beginning of untold adventures each time, no discussion. If I ever go to an all-inclusive hotel for a week without leaving, I will not post it here, or I will try to make a story out of it to post it here. Anyway, if that happens, sickness must have struck me, so please call for help.

Journaling will also be taken back to basics, and I want to re-learn how to write and how to develop a language. My English vocabulary has become worse over the years, so it would be a good lesson, I also consider taking a course in writing, just to be able to improve this.

Photos, journeys and journals, I want it all to come together at last. Keeping it simple, easy and active. I hope you will want to follow along, and here is my personal commercial.

Like & subscribe, or something like that, to follow the continued story of this blogventure.

Thanks for your time, have a good day!

Ci vediamo!
